Industrial automation is a field that mostly mechanical and electrical engineers wind up in, but the field as a whole could use a lot more people with strong programming skills. In this very informal (hopefully mostly Q&A) session, I plan to cover some of the ways modern automation equipment is wired and programmed in terms that computer programmers can understand. I'll cover some of the programming "languages" used as well as the hardware it runs on.
